The aim of this project is control the intensity of lamp. The intensity of lamp is directly proportional to the DC voltage applied across its terminals. Hence, if we control the voltage applied across its terminal, we actually can vary the intensity.

Here we use microcontroller from 8051 family. Two buttons are used as inputs to vary the intensity. PWM is generated at the output by using program burned into the microcontroller. The program can be written in Assembly language or in Embedded C. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) wave can be used to vary the intensity. Here the average voltage given or the average current flowing through the lamp will change depending on the ON and OFF time of the pulses controlling the intensity of the lamp i.e. The duty cycle of the wave controls its intensity.

The power supply consists of a step down transformer 230/12V, which steps down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted to DC using a Bridge rectifier. The ripples are removed using a capacitive filter and it is then regulated to +5V using voltage regulator 7805 which is required for the operation of microcontroller and other components.

The aim of this project is control the speed of DC motor. The speed of DC motor is directly proportional to the DC voltage applied across its terminals. Hence, if we control the voltage applied across its terminal, we actually can control its speed.

Here the average voltage given or the average current flowing through the motor will change depending on the ON and OFF time of the pulses controlling the speed of the motor i.e. The duty cycle of the wave controls its speed. On changing the duty cycle (ON time), we can change the speed.

The motor is interfaced to the microcontroller by an IC called motor driver IC i.e., L293D. By interchanging output ports, it will effectively change direction of the motor.

Stroboscopic lighting effects for discotheques are achieved by conventional White Light Emitting Diode (LED) replacing the discharge lamps for higher efficiency and low cost. This control is possible by instant on and off the LEDs at higher voltages for less time period by pulse width modulation. This fast control of intensity from full glow to full off helps in developing a stroboscopic effect which is generally used in disco dance floors for better effects.

A programmable microcontroller from 8051 family is engaged to provide such effect being driven by a MOSFET for cluster of LEDs. The duty cycle of the PWM increases progressively and decreases in certain time interval.

This project is engaged for industrial drafting fan for applications like textile mills, chocolate factory, and wire drawing units.

A programmable microcontroller from 8051 family is engaged to provide different speed at different times. A low voltage BLDC motor is driven by a power MOSFET in PWM mode drive which is derived from a microcontroller. The duty cycle of the PWM increases progressively in steps.

The project is developed to access a machine only by an authorized operator. Here each and every operator in the organization has to maintain one card for his access to the machine. A reader is provided to read the data from the card assigned to the authorized operator.

Whenever the data in the smart card is matched with the inbuilt operator’s data in the code then LCD display would indicate that the card is accepted. Optionally a relay can be used to ON/OFF the machine in case access control is required.

High Intensity Discharge lamps (HID) used for urban street light are based on principle of gas discharge, thus the intensity is not controllable by any voltage reduction method as the discharge path is broken.

In this project White Light Emitting Diode (LED) replaces the HID lamps where intensity control is possible by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The intensity control helps in saving energy at late nights during which the traffic density is low.

A programmable microcontroller from 8051 family is engaged to provide different intensities at the different times of late night for energy saving. The intensity gradually decreases from full intensity and then finally OFF.
